Two persons died of encephalitis in Gorakhpur on Wednesday taking the death toll in Uttar Pradesh's eastern region to 174 this year, a health official said here.

The dead belonged to Kushinagar district.
Additional Director (Health) UK Srivastava said 17 new patients were admitted today in BRD Medical College Hospital here.
Of the total 174 deaths, 165 died in BRD Hospital while the remaining expired in other government hospitals of the region - Gorakhpur, Siddharthnagar, Kushinagar, Maharajganj and Deoria districts.
As many as 140 patients are presently undergoing treatment at the BRD Hospital while 15 are admitted at various government hospitals of the region, he said.
