Two policemen killed in gunbattle in J&K

Two policemen were killed when terrorists ambushed a police team at Vicharnag on early Thursday morning.

Paramilitary Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and local police personnel immediately reached the spot and the area was cordoned off.

No group has yet claimed responsibility for the attack.

The terrorists sprayed bullets from automatic weapons at a police team from Soura police station on a routine patrol, a senior police officer said.

"One head constable and a cop died instantaneously," said the officer.

Before fleeing the scene, they also snatched an automatic rifle from the dead policeman, the officer said.

"Security forces are searching the area," the officer said.
