Not everyone knows how to dress for red carpet events. And especially when you’re 17 years old and your first film is the only one from your country to be screened at one of the world’s most esteemed film festivals — the chances of you learning are even fewer.

Acting in India’s official entry to the Cannes Film Festival, Vikramaditya Motwane’s Udaan, young Rajat Barmecha was in exactly that fix. Hours before the red carpet event, Barmecha realised that he was not prepared and did not have the appropriate clothes for the evening. Which is when, Anurag Kashyap, the producer of the film, stepped in to save the day and at the last minute, got designer Narendra Kumar to arrange for a tuxedo.

“All of us were going to be walking the red carpet at Cannes for the first time. Rajat had not carried any appropriate clothes. Luckily, we could arrange something for him quickly. Nari (Narendra Kumar Ahmed) was extremely kind to help us out,” said Kashyap.

Udaan apparently received a standing ovation from the audience after the screening at Cannes, but did not garner a lot of attention from Bollywood faces at the festival. It stars television actors Ronit Roy and Ram Kapoor, along with newcomer Rajat Barmecha.
