The Hospital Board meeting is due to take place after a gap of three years due to the rift between the hospital and varsity management on June 30 and now, the new tussle to chair the meeting has created fresh problems.
The hospital management has ignored the KGMU Vice Chancellor who also happens to be the chairperson of the Board! Instead, in the invitation sent to the Vice-Chancellor, Prof SK Agrawal has been asked to attend the meeting of the Board as an “ordinary member”. The invitation was received at the V-C’s office on Friday and the matter was taken up seriously by the KGMU administration.
“When the V-C is the chairman of the Board, how can I get the invitation to attend the meeting as a member?” asked Prof Agrawal.
It may be mentioned that the Medical Superintendent of the hospital was given additional charge of the 20-bed hospital of the dental university. In this capacity, the hospital administration has invited Prof CP Govila also.
The meeting, which was supposed to be exclusively for KGMU, now includes 5 points relating to the Dental University among the total 42 points on the agenda. This has made the presence of Prof Govila or his representative necessary. Will Prof Agrawal and Prof Govila both sit as chairpersons in the meeting? Or will they exchange chairs depending upon the point of discussion? “I had asked Medical Superintendent Dr Gurmeet Singh to discuss the agenda beforehand but he has treated me like an ordinary member,” Prof Agrawal said, adding that he would, however, go to the meeting in “favour of the patients”.
He has even discussed the situation with Dental varsity V-C Prof CP Govila on Saturday afternoon.
