Surendra Singh of Kusumdia, who was in the same vehicle with the MLA, alleged that the attackers were Congressmen, though this could not be independently verified. The Janpad elections held on Tuesday might be the main reason behind the attack, because just before the heckling incident, Borkar had gone to the residence of party Navli’s candidate who had won the janpad seat.

Singh said that after leaving the BJP candidate’s house, Borkar and her supporters proceeded towards Deshgaon. When they stopped at a dhaba near Deshgaon, an inebriated man suddenly came up to the vehicle and abused the MLA and her husband Naval Borkar.

Peeved with the incident, the MLA went to the Deshgaon police station to lodge a complaint when a led by the man arrived there and heckled her.

The MLA’s condition is stated to be stable, said her supporters. The MLA, however, did not interact with the media.
