A father-son duo was arrested on Monday for fatally stabbing a college student and injuring his friend when they complained about the poor quality of food and catering at their dhaba, the police said.

The arrested persons, identified as Satnam Sardar and his father Gurmel Sardar, own Satnam dhaba (roadside eatery) at Bholaram Ustad Marg.

Satnam and Gurmel stabbed Vinod Gurjar and Vinay Patel at the dhaba on Saturday night. The two victims had reached with their three friends at the roadside eatery.

The friends claimed the victims had only told the dhaba owner that food and catering services were not up to the mark. The trio had rushed Vinod and Vinay to a private hospital, where doctors pronounced Vinod dead on the intervening night of Sunday and Monday. Vinay is said to be in a critical condition.

As news of Vinod's death reached his family and friends, the angry relatives created ruckus outside the hospital where the deceased and his injured friend were admitted on Monday morning.

The friends and the family members alleged that the Bhanwarkua police took the incident lightly. "After the incident, the father-son duo went to the police station but instead of arresting them, the police allow them to go," one of the friends alleged.

Sensing trouble, Bhanwarkua police station in-charge Rajendra Soni assured Vinod’s family of taking action against the dhaba owner and his son.

Soni, however, claimed that friends and family members of the deceased created ruckus just to waive off the hospital bill. "The hospital refused to hand the body to them as they had not cleared Rs 25,000. On the administration’s intervention, the hospital waived off Rs 10,000. But still, they were not ready to pay the remaining amount. Later, the hospital only took Rs 5,000 to settle the matter," he said.

A case was registered against Satnam and Gurmel under Section 302 (murder), 324 (voluntarily causing hurt), 294 (obscene acts and songs), 506 (criminal intimidation) and 34 (acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention) of the Indian Penal code.

The police presented the duo in a court which sent them to a jail.
