Villagers recovered the carcasses of goats in the morning and on the basis of injury marks on the bodies, they concluded that only a leopard could have killed them. They said the village is surrounded by dense forests of Bedia and Mehendikund and the incidents of wild animals straying aren't new.

Villagers launched search for the animal besides alerting forest officials. Forest personnel had reached the spot and launched a search for the big cat in the village and adjoining areas, but they failed to locate the leopard till the filing of the report.
