Minor reveals rape by step-father after watching TV serial in Indore

A minor girl in Indore revealed her repeated rape by her stepfather after watching a TV serial which mirrored her own real-life ordeal, police said on Friday.
The accused, identified as one Sachin Sharma, was arrested on Saturday and sent to jail by a city court.
The 11-year-old girl, who cannot be named for legal reasons, told her mother that her step-father has been raping her for the past six months and threatening to kill her if she disclosed his assaults to anybody.
The minor's mother told reporters that the girl gathered courage after watching a similar story on Tuesday on the popular TV series Crime Patrol which is based on real-life incidents.
She narrated her ordeal to her mother on Friday.
The shocked mother tried to call the police immediately but her husband snatched the mobile phone, forcing her to rush to the nearest Dawarikapuri police station and lodge a complaint.
The accused was picked up on Friday night but formally arrested on Saturday.
"For the last few months, she stopped playing with other kids of the locality. I tried to find out the reasons but she kept silent. On Friday, she narrated that she was being sexually harassed by my husband," said the mother.
She had married Sharma two years ago after the death of her first husband.
Rajeev Tripathi, station house officer of Dwarikapuri police station said that the accused have been charged under stringent sections of IPC and the POSCO Act.
