A three-day-old infant who had been brought to MY Hospital in a critical condition breathed her last on Wednesday.

Deserted by her parents as soon as she was admitted in the hospital, the doctors said the child was underweight, prematurely born and extremely critical. "The child was put on ventilator. She was in shock and had very little chance of survival," said Dr Sunil Arya, paediatrician at the hospital.

Police suspect the parents did not want to keep the child after coming to know that it was a girl.

While the body was sent for post mortem and is currently kept in mortuary, the parents of the infant are yet to be contacted. "They had provided the management with wrong address and maybe the wrong name. The address says that they lived in Khajrana, but when we tried reaching them, it was futile as all the details punched in were found incorrect," added Dr Arya.

While the police are looking into the case, another infant was abandoned soon after its delivery. The infant has been admitted in the nursery department of the MY Hospital’s paediatrics division.
