The West Indies batsman’s half-century came off 27 balls and included five boundaries and three sixes. His first half century was a quickfire 66 against Delhi Daredevils which was also his first match of the 2017 IPL. Simmons, who impressed last season, had lost opening spot to Jos Buttler. He started with a boundary on the very first ball of the Mumbai Indians’ chase off the bowling of Sandeep Sharma. He then focussed on settling into a rhythm, hitting odd boundaries in between and then opened his shoulders in the sixth over -- the last of the powerplay. He hit two huge sixes of the sixth over bowled by Mohit Sharma to help Mumbai Indians post 68 without losing a wicket in the powerplays.

He also got a life when he was dropped by Mohit Sharma at long off on the bowling of Axar Patel. He was batting on 44 at that moment.

His knock kept Mumbai in hunt to chase down mammoth total of 230 set by Kings XI Punjab. However, at the end of a thrilling encounter at the Wankhede, Mumbai Indians lost by seven runs to the visitors.
