Maoist frontal organisations have vowed to stall the proposed mega steel plant of JSW Steel Ltd at Salboni, about 150 km west of Kolkata.
The hardline stance comes within five days of JSW Steel Ltd vice-chairman and managing director Sajjan Jindal meeting chief minister Mamata Banerjee on the Rs 35,000 crore project, the single largest investment in West Bengal till date.
After the meeting with Banerjee, where both sides seemingly inched towards overcoming land acquisition hurdles, Jindal had said work on the 10 million tonnes per annum plant would start after the festive season in October.
"We will not let the steel plant come up in Salboni," Ashok Jiban Ghosh, secretary of Durniti O Samrajyabadi Agrashan Birodhi Ganatantrik Mancha, an umbrella organisation of pro-Maoist groups told Hindustan Times on Wednesday.
