Harnaaz Sandhu is marking one year of her historic Miss Universe win. The 22-year-old shared a video from the national costume round when she wore a pink lehenga. Check out some throwback pictures inside.
Miss Universe Harnaaz Sandhu created history last year by winning the coveted Miss Universe 2021 crown. Harnaaz won the title for India after almost 21 years. Before her, Lara Dutta had won the Miss Universe pageant in 2000. The 22-year-old became a household name and garnered millions of fans across the globe. On December 13, Miss Universe 2020, Andrea Meza of Mexico crowned Harnaaz Sandhu as her successor in a grand ceremony held at the Universe Dome in Eilat, Israel. Now, after almost a year to the iconic moment, Harnaaz is celebrating her win by sharing a throwback video from the national costume round. Harnaaz Sandhu marks 1 year of Miss Universe 2021 win
Harnaaz Sandhu took to her Instagram stories to repost a video from the national costume round at the beauty pageant. The Miss Universe 2021 winner wore a heavily embellished pink lehenga set to display the culture of India on stage. Designer Abhinav Mishra designed the delicate pink ensemble for Harnaaz. According to the beauty pageant, Harnaaz's outfit symbolised a 'woman as a protector' and showcased the royal Indian Queen. Apart from the lehenga, the other key elements of the national costume were - the mirrors on the outfit and the umbrella Harnaaz carried. Check out the video below.
Regarding the design details, Harnaaz's national costume came adorned with detailed mirror embellishments, intricate embroidery inspired by 13th-century Persia, and gota patti work. She draped the heavily-decorated dupatta over the full-sleeved blouse and A-line lehenga set. Gold bangles, a statement ring, layered necklaces, earrings, and a matha patti completed the styling.
Earlier, the official page of Miss Diva also posted Harnaaz's different costumes during last year's pageant. The post shows Harnaaz in an embellished thigh-slit gown, a maroon cut-out swimsuit, and a pink lehenga. "One year to this moment! And rest is HERstory," the caption said. Check out the post below.
Meanwhile, before Harnaaz Sandhu, Lara Dutta became the Miss Universe in 2000, and Sushmita Sen bagged the title in 1994.
