Lok Sabha elections 2019: AAP plans 3,000 road meetings, 280 rallies
With the slogan “poorn rajya banao, jhadu ka button dabao (vote for AAP and get full statehood)”, the party said it will distribute Delhi chief minister and AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal’s letter explaining the need for statehood to Delhi.
With 280 rallies and 3,000 roadside meetings planned for over a month, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Tuesday said it will launch its campaign for the Lok Sabha elections in Delhi on March 23.
“AAP’s election campaign will begin from March 23 with the first rally scheduled in West Delhi. A total of 280 rallies and 3,000 meetings near polling stations will be held until April 30. AAP’s national convener Arvind Kejriwal will hold 70 mega rallies – one in each of the city’s assembly constituencies,” AAP Delhi unit convener Gopal Rai told reporters.
With the slogan “poorn rajya banao, jhadu ka button dabao (vote for AAP and get full statehood)”, the party said it will distribute Delhi chief minister and AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal’s letter explaining the need for statehood to Delhi. It promised Delhi the status within two years if AAP won all seven seats. It also promised a house in 10 years to every family in the city. Kejriwal has also promised the party would introduce 85% reservations for Delhiites in government jobs and colleges. These sops are also going to find a mention in the party’s poll manifesto which is being drafted by senior leaders.
The party’s campaign will be a “five-layer” campaign and the rallies will be led by the area AAP legislator. In the four constituencies where there are MLAs of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), the AAP has assigned the area’s party president and councillors to conduct such rallies and street meetings.
“We have divided the entire city into 260 zones. Also, our entire campaign has been divided into two phases. The first phase will be from March 23 to April 7, while the second will be from April 8 to April 30. On March 23, Kejriwal will kick-start his campaign by holding rallies at Shakurbasti and Timarpur in the evening,” Rai said.
Among other AAP leaders, Rai will hold 30 rallies in the first phase and Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh will lead 26 rallies. Senior leader and deputy chief minister Manish Sisodia will hold 17 rallies.
The party is also creating exclusive AAP merchandise that will be distributed to voters.
