Lok Sabha Elections 2019: Himachal’s farthest polling station to host its oldest voter, a 108-year-old

The remote polling station in Shakti village in Kullu district’s Banjar sub-division will host 108-year-old Shari Devi, the oldest voter in Himachal Pradesh.

Election officials will have to trek almost 22 km through a steep terrain to reach the Shakti village polling station—the farthest—in Himachal Pradesh. The remote polling station in Kullu district’s Banjar sub-division will also host 108-year-old Shari Devi, the oldest voter in the state.

“Shari’s house is 200 meters from the polling station. The election commission this time is making arrangements to ferry centenarian voters and felicitate them with bouquets and garlands. Shari Devi is the oldest voter in the state and she will be carried to the polling station in a palanquin,” said additional chief electoral officer DK Rattan.

“I don’t remember, but I have voted many times. I will vote for the candidate who promises road and electricity to our village,” said Shari Devi. Her husband Gumat Ram died a few years back. Since then she lives with her grandchildren.

Situated deep inside Sainj valley, the village lacks electricity, road and water.
