Lok Sabha Elections 2019: Housing societies in Pune get 100% result
The highest voter turnout has been from societies in Baner, Balewadi, Pashan, Aundh, Kharadi, Wadgaon Sheri, NIBM road and Kalyaninagar
Various housing societies in Pune ensured that residents go out and vote. Some societies arranged for car pool facilities, wherein society members travelled together to the polling stations.
The highest voter turnout has been from societies in Baner, Balewadi, Pashan, Aundh, Kharadi, Wadgaon Sheri, NIBM road and Kalyaninagar. A few societies registered 100 per cent voter turnout. Athashree society, Baner Pashan link road hired buses and cars in the morning and managed 100% voting, while another society Shivneri Park reported 100% voting. Blue chip society and Imperium co-operative housing society also reported 100 per cent voting.
“A lot of societies in Wadgaon Sheri made sure that every society member casts their vote. There have been long queues at polling stations since 7 am,” said Manoj Pochat, a resident of Wadgaon Sheri.
Ansul Gupta, a resident of Hinjewadi, said, “Housing societies in Hinjewadi arranged for car pool facilities so that members of the society can commute to the polling stations.”
Deepak Patil from Gulmohar Queenstown Condominium in Kharadi, said, “We had put up various help desks near Eon IT park circle. Till now, we have catered to at least 500 voters. We have also put up help desks near Ganga Constella and Blue Berry Society in Kharadi.”
In Vimannagar, the voting drastically improved post 10 am. “We had several of our society members come in large groups so it was easy to find polling booth numbers and help each other,” said Vinayak Ragho, a resident of Vimannagar.
Residents of housing societies also volunteered to help senior citizens. At least 50 autorickshaw drivers in areas like Aundh, Baner, Balewadi and Pashan were offering free rides to voters to reach their polling booths.
Anushree Chaphalkar, resident of Gokhalenagar, said, “I have a spinal cord injury and I am restricted to a wheelchair. Volunteers were eager to help. The makeshift ramps at the polling booths was a good initiative.”
