Lok Sabha Elections 2019 : Jagmeet joins SAD, calls it ‘ghar wapsi’
Badal says it’s historic day for Akali Dal as Punjab’s ‘most experienced’ politician joins party.
Former Congress MP Jagmeet Singh Brar on Friday joined the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) and termed it “ghar wapsi” as his father was also an Akali leader.

Welcoming Jagmeet into the party fold, SAD president Sukhbir Singh Badal said: “I have learnt so many things in politics from Jagmeet Brar. The vision of our family and Jagmeet is to develop the state. He has joined the SAD unconditionally and it will add strength to the party, especially in Muktsar.”
Five-time chief minister Parkash Singh Badal, Union minister Harsimrat Kaur Badal and senior leader Bikram Singh Majithia were also present.
“Although we were in different parties, I have old political connection with Jagmeet. When Sukhbir contested LS poll from Faridkot, I used to campaign door-to-door. At that time, Brar was a big name in politics and created fear in the minds of Akali leaders, including me,” said Harsimrat.
Addressing the gathering, Badal said: “It is a historic day for the Akali Dal as Punjab’s well-known personality, speaker and the most experienced politician Jagmeet Brar joins us.”
“Ik ehna di man lya kro, hor bhave kise din a mnya kro. Ja main syani slah dina, ja ehna ne siyani slah deni hundi hai (Listen Brar’s advice. He will always give a good suggestion,” Badal told party workers.
Lashing out at the Congress, Brar said the ruling party has failed to declare candidates from Ferozepur and Faridkot segments and are waiting for the Akali Dal to field its nominees. “This shows the Congress’ fear. The party has already conceded defeat,” he said.
On his joining the SAD, Brar said: “I needed a platform to raise the issues of people and have joined SAD unconditionally.”
