Bharatiya Janata Party’s Gurdaspur Lok Sabha candidate Sunny Deol on Monday kicked off his poll campaign with a rally drawing attention to his patriotic credentials.
“I don’t know much about politics, but am a patriot,” he said in a four-minute speech at the PUDA ground after filing his nomination papers.
Sporting a turbaned look, the actor-turned-politician started his speech with ‘Sat Sri Akal’. “Gurdaspur waleo, theek o tussi saare? Tussi sare vishvash karde ho mere te, esse lai mai ethe ayah an. Tuhade pyar ne mainu ethe lyanda. Vekho ethe main aya, kyun ke tussi sarean ne mainu sadea hai (Are you good, Gurdaspur people? Since you trust me, I have come here. Your love have brought me here. I am here because you called me),” he said.
“Mere papa ne keha Punjab de har bande de dil ch tu baitha hoyan, ja othe, te saare tenu pyar dennge. Tuhanu mein kehana chauhuna k tuhade to kite jyada pyar main tuhanu karda, dilon kardan (My father said, I live in the hearts of all the Punjabis and they will shower me with love. I love you much more than you love me).” “You have to make Narendra Modi win. My victory will be Modi’s victory,” he said. He raised the slogans ‘Hindustan Zindabad” to end his speech. Deol was accompanied by his younger brother Bobby Deol and state BJP chief Shwait Malik. Deol will take on Congress’s sitting MP Sunil Jakhar.
Before filing the papers, Deol paid obeisance at the Golden Temple and Durgiana Temple in Amritsar, early morning.
