‘Tricking people for poll benefit’, Mayawati on PM Modi’s caste definition
BSP chief Mayawati has accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi of misleading voters about his caste.
Bahujan Samaj Party chief Maywati took another swipe at Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday for his comment that he belongs to whatever caste the poor belong to.
“PM Modi in an effort to mislead people has now come up with a new explanation that his caste is the same as that of the poor. What else will he trick people with for the sake of electoral benefits? But how can the people forgive him for the plight of millions of poor people, labourers, farmers etc. for 5 years?” she tweeted on Sunday.
Mayawati had earlier accused Modi of being a fake OBC leader who allegedly included his caste in the backward category during his tenure as Gujarat chief minister for electoral benefit.
At an election rally in Sonebhadra on Sunday, Modi had said, “I want to tell them that Modi belongs to just one caste — whatever caste the poor belong to, I belong to that caste,”
In another tweet, she urged voters to exercise their franchise wisely so that their interests and welfare are taken care of.
“Polling for 6th phase is underway today under Lok Sabha elections. I appeal to all the voters of this phase to exercise their franchise to safeguard their interests and welfare. Your vote is most important for your bright future and a new and better government.”
Polling is being held for 14 seats in Uttar Pradesh in the 6th phase.
On Friday, Mayawati had said that if Modi had he been backward since birth, the RSS would not have let him become the PM.
Mayawati’s riposte came in the backdrop of Modi’s attack on SP-BSP alliance at his Azamgarh rally on Thursday where he accused the two parties of indulging in caste politics.
