Police said the post mortem report had confirmed that the girl was gang raped before being murdered.

According to the police, the victim, a student of Class 12 in a prominent city school, was murdered on February 11 and her body dumped in the bushes behind the zoo. The girl’s clothes were found torn and her body was wrapped in a towel. “The post mortem report has revealed rape before murder and death due to shock and haemorrhage,” said Alok Pathak, spokesperson of the district police.

He said police had detained two rickshaw pullers – Satguru and Deepu—who lived in a slum colony near Park Road, but originally belong to Haidergarh and Barabanki respectively.

The girl had gone missing on February 10 after she left her house for school on her bicycle to take her practical examination. Her family members lodged a missing complaint with the Gudamba police station after she did not return home till late in the evening and her mobile phone was found switched off.
