In view of the upcoming Holi festivities, the Lucknow University (LU) has asked students to refrain from playing with colours on the campus, especially near the girls’ hostel, in a notice issued on Sunday.

The notice asks students to ‘not throw colours on each other on the campus and inside hostels’. It states that ‘playing Holi near the girls’ hostel is completely prohibited’. There will be no classes on the leaves designated for Holi, it mentions.

The notice also directs parents and guardians of students to advice their wards to act according to the directions of the university. LU spokesman NK Pandey said the notice was issued to avoid any untoward incident and maintain discipline on the campus. “The messes in the varsity hostels will serve food for students during the leave period. This will facilitate outstation students who want to remain here during the leaves,” he said.

Meanwhile, the ABVP criticised LU decision to bar students from playing with colours on Holi.
