The Shahunagar police have arrested a teenager for allegedly killing his friend over a minor dispute. On Wednesday night, the accused, 17, stabbed his friend of the same age, with a sharp knife because the victim touched his face while teasing him.
According to the authorities, the incident took place near Jasmin Mill road in Shahunagar, where both, the accused and victim stayed. The accused is an HSC student, while the victim is an SSC pass-out.
“Since the past one year, the accused was in Mysore where he stayed with his uncle. He is being trained to be a sofa designer and is helping his uncle in the business,” said a police officer. He added that the teen had come to Mumbai to celebrate Eid with his family and was set to leave for Mysore on Thursday.
Officials said that both the teenagers were childhood friends. A fight broke out between the two after the victim began teasing the accused. As the victim touched the accused’s face teasingly the latter got irritated and a verbal dispute broke out between them. Seeing the two argue, their friends intervened and stopped the fight from getting violent.
“The accused went to his house but came back within seconds with a knife in his hand and stabbed the victim before he could retaliate. He claims the victim has slapped him twice so in anger he committed the crime. We have detained the boy and he has been sent to a correction home,” said DB Thorat, senior police inspector of Shahunagar police station.
The police have registered a case of murder under sections 302, 323 and 504 of the Indian Penal Code.
“The accused stabbed his friend in the chest, puncturing his heart. The victim was taken to Sion hospital where he succumbed to his injuries hours after being admitted,” said a police officer.
The Shahunagar police had recorded the statements of around five friends of the two boys who witnessed the fight and murder. “During the investigation, we found that the accused did not like if anyone touched his face or pinched his cheek. He got irked because the victim touched his face,” said a police officer.
The victim is survived by two elder sisters and an elder brother. “The family is shocked that such a small incident has led to the murder of their sibling,” said Mohammed Farooq Chaudhari, brother-in-law of the victim.
