The Worli police arrested a 19-year-old boy and two minors last week for stealing ₹2,000 from a taxi driver.

It has also been revealed that the accused, Samir alias Raj Santosh Kale 19, a resident of Century quarters in Worli, would commit mobile thefts across the city on his motorcycle.

On June 9, Baleshwar Ram Lonak Ram Dhobi, 54, the taxi driver, was walking on the road near the Worli naka petrol pump around 9.30pm.

Kale deliberately pushed Dhobi and indulged in an argument with him. Amid the chaos, he stole ₹2,000 from the driver.

“Instead of apologising to the driver, he started to argue with him. Amid the chaos, Kale quickly removed Dhobi’s wallet off his pocket and handed it over to one of the minors involved in the theft. The minor passed the wallet in no-time to another accomplice, also a minor. The minor fled the spot with the wallet,” an officer from Worli police station said.

Kale also left the spot. When Dhobi checked his pocket, he could not find his wallet, following which he raised an alarmed.

Ravindra Ghodse, police sub-inspector from Worli police station and his team caught Kale and the minors while patrolling the vicinity.

Jitendra Pawar, senior police inspector, said, “The two minors were counselled and handed over to their parents. During investigation, we found out Kale would snatch mobile phones on his motorcycle. He has cases registered against him at Tardeo, Khar and two Worli police stations.”

Police have seized Kale’s motorcycle. The cash has been recovered.
