An 18-month-old baby was killed while a four-year-old has been admitted to hospital with serious injuries after fire broke out in a residential structure near Carter Road in Bandra on Monday.
The blaze in the Bandra building was doused within an hour.
The fire occurred in the pump room of a ground plus two-storey housing society, Shoeb Manzil, located on Perry Cross Road.
While the baby girl, Didi Bhanu, was declared dead on arrival at the hospital, the four-year-old has been admitted to the ICU at Holy Family hospital in Bandra (West).
An official from the civic body’s disaster management cell said they received a call about a level one (minor) fire around noon.
Officials said the electric wiring, installations, wood, clothes and household materials had all caught fire. The blaze was doused within an hour.
The fire official, who did not wish to be named, said: “Using the pump room of a residential complex is illegal. The nominated fire officer of the ward will file a complaint against the office-bearers of the society.”
The cause of the fire has not yet been established.
