Three people were allegedly assaulted by an irate manager, cashier and waiters at a Matunga restaurant on Thursday night over payment of bill due to lack of change.
According to the Mahim police, the incident occurred at Ganga-Vihar restaurant in Matunga.
“The complainant, Meher, had gone to the restaurant with his two friends for dinner. They told the cashier that they would pay the bill amount, Rs580, by cheque or card. The cashier disagreed to cheque payment and a card payment could not be made as the swipe machine had developed a snag,” said senior police inspector Milind Yedekar.
The three then suggested that they would pay in cash and offered old notes, which escalated the matter. “The trio was beaten up over the altercation of change notes,” said Yedekar.
The police have arrested the manager, the cashier and four waiters. The accused have been booked under Indian Penal Code sections for unlawful assembly along with section 323 (punishment for voluntarily causing hurt), 504 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of the peace), 506 (punishment for criminal intimidation).
