Eight from Mumbai held after fight breaks out over filming an 18-year-old
Two constables were injured in the mob fight. The main accused, charged for harassing the teen, and 17 other rioters, are still absconding.
The Manickpur police have arrested eight people under charges of molestation, rioting and assaulting two public servants. The main accused, Shahid Asif Khan, is absconding.
Khan, a resident of Koliwada, in Vasai (east), allegedly filmed an 18-year-old changing her clothes in a changing room during a fashion show at an event in Vasai last week, following which he began to harass her.
On Tuesday, the teenage girl’s brother and his two friends was on his way to the police station to report Khan, when Khan showed up with a mob of 25 people.
The mob threatened them against reporting the matter to the police.
When police personnel intervened to break up the fight, two constables got injured in the process, said PI Anil Patil of Manickpur police station.
The police have seized 12 motorcycles. Mohammed Khan, 45, Imtiaz Malik, 19, Mohammed Nadim Khan, 34, Mehruddin Shaikh, 60, Mujir Khan, 28, Shahnawaz Shaikh, 28, Imran Ansari, 28, and one unidentified person have been remanded in police custody till February 16th. Seventeen more accused in the case are absconding.
