Ten fire tenders from Ambernath MIDC, Ulhasnagar, Kalyan and Badlapur were rushed to the site to douse the blaze. “It was a major fire and spread throughout the unit,”said Yashwant Nalawade, fire officer, additional Ambernath MIDC fire brigade. “There were no workers inside the company as it was a holiday for them.”

It took more than four hours to bring the fire, which started around 10pm, under control. It destroyed everything inside the unit. The cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained.

“There were many plastic chairs and items, as well as iron furniture, all of which caught fire,” Nalawade said.

Spread across an area of 2,500 sq metres, the manufacturing unit is located within other units, all of which have just one approach road. “This made it difficult for us to reach the unit as well as to fight the fire,” he added.
