‘Godman’, found on Facebook, rapes Mumbai woman to cure her father of cancer

The Thane police have booked a self-proclaimed godman for allegedly raping a 39-year-old professional for the past two years on the pretext of curing her father of cancer. The woman was also cheated of Rs3.10 lakh, said the police.

The woman, who works in a private firm as an executive officer, met the 50-year-old man, Sailal Hiralal Jedia, on Facebook in 2015.

“Convinced, the woman was decided to meet him in Thane. He demanded money to treat her father. Over a period of two years, he raped her and threatened to circulate her videos on social media if she raised an alarm,” said an officer. Jedia has been booked under Sections 376, 506 and 420 of the Indian Penal Code and under the Black Magic Act.

The police said it was in the second meeting when the woman was raped by Jedia and he shot a video of the act. “We have found his location and dispatched a team to arrest him.It seems that he has cheated many people. Apart from this, Jedia had taken the victim to various places and raped her.”
