In Mumbai: NIA seeks permission for lie detector test on IRF employee

The National investigation Agency (NIA) has sought permission from a court to conduct a lie detector test on accused Arshi Qureshi, Islamic Research Foundation’s (IRF) guest relation officer. The court has reserved order on the plea till Tuesday.

The central agency on Monday moved an application for Qureshi’s lie detector test in the case registered by Nagpada-based businessman Abdul Khan. Abdul had, in his complaint, alleged that his son Ashfaque, who along with other youths was radicalized by the accused, who also helped them escape from India to join ISIS.

The court has asked the agency to produce Qureshi before it as it needs to ask for his opinion on NIA’s demand. Qureshi, who then appeared before the court by afternoon, refused to give consent to prosecution’s demand. The court has now reserved its order on the plea for Tuesday.

Meanwhile, Qureshi filed any application alleging physical and mental torture. He alleged that the officers have not allowed him to sleep while he is in their custody. However, he had replied saying no when the court asked if the officers had beaten him. The court has now asked prosecution to file its say on Qureshi’s plea.
