Italian car maker Tonino Lamborghini eyes investment in Maharashtra

Senior Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation officials said they will meet representatives of the car maker on Friday

Italian car manufacturer Tonino Lamborghini is likely to invest in Maharashtra and its chairman, Antonio Lamborghini will attend the three-day ‘Magnetic Maharashtra’ global investors’ summit, which begins on February 18.

“Lamborghini is expected to invest in the state and their key interest is electric vehicles,” said Sanjay Sethi, chief executive officer, Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC) .

This Italian firm is a different entity from the well-known luxury car manufacturer Automobili Lamborghini Group.

State industries minister Subhash Desai said the department will meet the company delegates. Senior MIDC officials said they will meet the company on Friday. The state recently announced an electric vehicle policy.

“In ‘Make in India’ summit we signed Memorandum of Understandings worth Rs8 lakh crore. Now our target is to get investment of Rs10 lakh crore,” said Desai.

Honchos of global companies such as Richard Branson of Virgin Atlantic, Edward Monser, the president of Emerson Electric Co, Cho Hyun-Joon, chairman of Hyosung Group, and Mukesh Ambani, chairman and managing director of Reliance Industries Ltd, will attend the summit.
