The Shiv Sena on Tuesday condemned the attack on the Amarnath pilgrims, saying that it was symbolic of an attack on the entire country as well as the government. They urged the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led Union government to exact revenge.
Shiv Sena’s Sanjay’s Raut, Member of Parliament (MP) in the Rajya Sabha, said mere discussions and condemnation of the attacks on social media will not do, and now is the time for Prime Minister Narendra Modi to prove he has a 56-inch chest.
Raut said, “The surgical strike, demonetisation, have had no impact. We need to deal with Pakistan and terrorists. Mere condemnation and expression of sorrow will not do, the government needs to give a blunt answer.”
The Sena leader said that when the Amarnath yatra was under threat in 1996, it went on smoothly only because of Sena founder Bal Thackeray.
“He took a firm stand, and had said that even if a hair on a pilgrim’s head is touched, he will not let a single pilgrim go for Haj in the entire country. The government needs to take a similar tough stand,” Raut said.
