Motorist from Mumbai gets fuel pump attendants arrested for fleecing

The attendants filled diesel worth ₹2,600 while charging the complainant ₹3,000.

Next time you go to the fuel pump to refill your vehicle’s tank, keep an eye on the pump meter. A motorist, who went to refill his car at a fuel pump on Senapati Bapat Marg on Wednesday, was made to pay ₹3,000, but was given fuel worth ₹2,600. The two attendants were arrested from Mahim.

According to the police, the complainant asked the staff to refill diesel worth ₹3,000 in the tank and paid for it using his debit card. While taking his card back, the motorist noticed that the pump meter showed that ₹2,600 was to be paid for the fuel that was refilled. When he asked the attendant about the discrepancy, he was told that they had given him fuel worth ₹3,000, the police submitted before the metropolitan court.

Certain that he was fleeced, the complainant called the Mumbai police helpline and narrated the incident. Subsequently, he approached the Mahim police station, where a case of cheating was registered.

The Mahim police then reached the petrol pump and arrested the two attendants – Rajpal Prajapati, 41, and Mahendra Pandey, 40.

When HT asked if the accused have committed the offence before, inspector Kusum Waghmare said they are checking.

The two men were produced before a Bandra metropolitan court, where metropolitan magistrate YP Mananthawar remanded them in judicial custody.
