Padmavati controversy: 100 in Mumbai placed under preventive detention

The act has been taken under the Code of Criminal Procedure to avoid any damages to public property, said the police.

In light of rising tensions surrounding the release of Padmaavat, 100 people from across Mumbai affiliated with the Rajput outfit Karni Sena were remanded in custody as part of a preventive detention on Wednesday.

The men have been placed under preventive detention under the Code of Criminal Procedure to avoid any damages to public property, said the police.

“We have taken around 100 people into custody so far, and our teams are on the ground to take swift action,” said Mumbai police spokesperson Deepak Devraj, deputy commissioner of police.

A group of 19 men, who were planning to protest the movie outside multiplexes, were detained by the Goregaon, Malad, Kandivli and Borivli police stations
