A sailor committed suicide onboard the INS Tabar ship at the Naval Dockyard in Mumbai’s Colaba on Saturday morning.

According to the Colaba police, the sailor, identified as CR Naikalu, who was working on the INS Tabar, hanged himself with a rope in one of the cabins of the ship.

The police said Naikalu’s colleagues noticed the body at 4am on Saturday and informed the captain of the ship.

The captain then informed the authorities and the police officers. Naikalu was rushed to Ashwini Hospital in Navy Nagar at Colaba.

The police said Naikalu’s body was sent for post mortem at 6.35am.

The police have registered a case of accidental death.

Naikalu’s family, who are residents of Andhra Pradesh were informed about his death.

“We are investigating the reason behind his death,” said Vijay Dhopavkar, senior police inspector, Colaba police station while speaking to the media.
