Students of IIT-Bombay, Mumbai, win second prize at Auto Expo 2018

Students of Industrial Design Centre of IIT-B won prize for futuristic autonomous sports car

Students of the Industrial Design Centre (IDC) of Indian Institute of Technology-Bombay (IIT-B) recently won the second prize for their futuristic autonomous sports car at the Auto Expo 2018, held in Greater Noida. Several students from IDC had participated in the event this year and their ideas ranged from mobility solution for transporting emergency medical cases in rural India to luxury yacht designed with traditional craft and modular future transportation.

“The Delhi Auto Expo, being the largest car show in Asia, offers an opportunity to students of the design department to exhibit their work and interact with industry professionals. Amidst the growing focus on electric-powered vehicles and autonomous mobility, the students of IDC exhibited some of the best transport design works to the judges,” said Sugandh Malhotra, assistant professor, IDC. He added that the theme of the competition this year was on conceptualising the futuristic motorsport vehicle considering autonomous vehicle technologies.

Around 50 participants from across the country competed in the expo. “Participants went through a series of interviews and stages of the competition and one of our students managed to make it to the top three,” he added. IDC’s racing team is also present at the expo at present to exhibit a car that they designed.
