The Oshiwara police recently booked two businessmen who cheated a woman of Rs1.04 crore under the pretext of supplying her with 95 iPhones and some laptops.
The accused neither delivered the items, nor did they return the money.
According to the police, the complainant, Simran Sood, is a resident of Oshiwara in Jogeshwari (West). She is a businesswoman and runs her own private company which deals in garments. She wanted to buy a number of phones (iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 plus), for gifting purposes.
The woman came in touch with the two men who also claimed to be businessman. Between December 2016 and April 2017, the complainant paid them the money in instalments, but the duo failed to deliver the phones.
The woman waited for a few more months, but the duo soon cut all communications with her. Senior police inspector Subhash Khanvilkar of Oshiwara police station told HT, “The woman finally approached us and we registered a First information Report (FIR) against the two.”
The FIR has been registered under section 420 (cheating), 406 (criminal breach of trust) and 34 (common intention) of the Indian Penal Code.
The police said they will send summons to the accused and ask them to be present before the police station to record their statements. The police have collected evidence to prove that the woman had made the payment for the phones to the accused.
