MUMBAI: The special court for Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Wednesday granted bail to NCP leader Chhagan Bhujbal and his nephew Sameer Bhujbal in connection with the Maharashtra Sadan scam case.

They will, however, continue to remain in jail, as they have been booked in a case of enforcement directorate (ED), i n which the Bombay high court has rejected his bail. The ACB court had on June 15 issued a production warrant against the two in the case.
On Wednesday, the jail authorities had produced the duo where they were formally arrested and later granted bail.
“It was a formal procedure and they were granted bail on certain conditions. These conditions include not to leave city without informing court and not to tamper with the prosecution case,” said Pradeep Gharath, special public prosecutor, in the case.
The court had last month taken the cognisance and issued summons to all the 17 accused out of which one has died pending the investigation. As Bhujbal and his nephew Sameer have been lodged in Arthur Road jail in connection with a money-laundering case, the summons were returned and the court had on June 15 issued production warrant to produce the duo before the court.
Hiten Venegavkar, the counsel for the ED, who is investigating the case of money laundering against the two, said, “The bail granted by the court to Bhujbals in the ACB matter is routine procedure. This will not release Bhujbals from custody granted by the PMLA court neither will it affect the merits of PMLA case against them.”
