“The commuters barged into the booking office and the ATM. They threw stones and broke window panes. No arrests have been made yet,” said Tukaram Shinde, senior inspector of Andheri GRP.

The police said that accused fled only when they were confronted by GRP officials.

The police added that the railway board has ordered an inquiry into the collision.

“As of now, it is unclear if the accident occurred because of a fault with the signal, the tracks or because of human error. The report should be ready in eight days,” said Shinde.

Shinde further said that a case of negligence would be registered with the GRP only once the report is ready.

At about 11.10 pm on Saturday, a Virar-bound fast local collided with a Churchgate-bound slow local at Andheri.
