The victim, Ahmed Hussain Sawant, a driver by profession, was going to a relative’s house in Ghatkopar when he tried to overtake a bike being ridden by Bilal Khan, 22, at the Baiganwadi stretch of Ghatkopar-Mankhurd link road, at around 11.15am.

“An argument broke out between the two over the issue of speeding, and they got into a physical fight,” said Pralhad Panaskar, senior inspector of Deonar police station.

Khan then left the spot, but soon returned with Mushtaq Ahmedullah Khan, 50, and Niyaz Ahmed Khan, 28. “The trio beat Sawant unconscious and fled,” Panaskar said. The locals rushed Sawant to Noor hospital where he received 16 stitches to the forehead.

The Deonar police have registered a case of attempt to murder against the trio. Khan, who is recuperating in hospital, will be arrested after being discharged. The police are on the lookout for Mushtaq and Niyaz.
