The district collector’s office razed down structures in Jaibhimnagar in Kalwa, Turbhepada in Kolshet, Thane (West), and Davle-Pimpri near Dahisar-Shil Phata.

The residents of Turbhepada, however, tried to stop the demolition drive by lighting candles and holding banners and roses.

The banners claimed that they were living on private land and that the authorities had issued wrong notices to them
“We are on the right path and are demolishing structures only on public land.

The residents do not have any proof that the land is private property,” said tehsildar Krishna Jadhav.
“We demolished 110 structures in Kalwa, 111 structures in Turbhepada, and 90 in Davle-Pimpri. We will not be carrying out any demolitions from Friday till Dusshera.”

The Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC) demolished another nine structures on a private land in Diva.
The district collector and the municipal corporation demolished around 457 illegal structures on Wednesday.

There are more than two lakh encroachments on public land in Thane district, of which more than 18,000 structures, mostly commercial ones, have been demolished since January.
