Madhukar Chaudhari, senior police inspector of the Santacruz police station said, “We have arrested six residents of the New Sujata Housing Society in connection with the case. We cannot divulge their names, as some of them are senior citizens. They were produced in the court on Tuesday and have been remanded in police custody till March 10.”

On February 22, a group of women from the society started protesting outside 41-year-old Gangji’s showroom, Libas, which was set up in the premises recently. The society members opposed Gangji’s move to set up his showroom in the society premises. On hearing the commotion, Gangji tried to escape when around four persons caught hold of him and assaulted him. In a bid to flee, he climbed a wall at the rear of the shop. He fell and was admitted to the Lilavati Hospital.

In November 2010, Gangji and his driver Ijaaz Khan were arrested for assaulting some society members after a scuffle took place over the beautification of the society’s garden.
