Legislators expressed concern over slum proliferation on forest land in connivance with officials. “We will take strict action against officials if they allow slums on forest land,” said Bhaskar Jadhav, minister of state for urban development, in the legislative council on Thursday.

The issue was raised by Congress MLC Bhai Jagtap. “Slums are coming back on the land from where they were cleared,” said Jagtap.

Jagtap also mentioned the recent fire on March 4, which took place in the forest area between the Filmcity and Sanjay Gandhi National Park. “It seems there was a sabotage to build more hutments,” he added.
