The ownership of the plot on which Adarsh building in Colaba has been constructed is as controversial as the clearances the society got.
While the defence ministry says it owns the plot, documents with the revenue department show the state owns it.
State officials said there are no records to show that land was transferred to the ministry. “We asked them [defence authorities] to submit papers to support their claim, but they could not,” said Chandrashekhar Oak, Mumbai district collector. “The issue is being looked into,” a defence ministry spokesperson said.
