A Team Anna meeting scheduled for January 2 and 3 at Anna Hazare's village of Ralegan Siddhi in Maharashtra’s Ahmednagar district has been postponed as the anti-corruption activist is still unwell.
“The core committee meeting scheduled for the coming week has been postponed as Annaji’s health is still not good. As soon as he recovers, we will announce the next date,” said a statement from Hazare's NGO, India Against Corruption.
Citing ill health, Hazare had called off his three-day fast in Mumbai on the second day, December 28, and returned to Ralegan Siddhi a day later.
Hazare, who is suffering from a cough and fever, has now been advised hospitalisation by his physician, Dr KH Sancheti, who has prescribed more thorough medical tests to determine the cause of the ailments.
Hazare will decide on hospitalisation tomorrow, said his personal assistant, Anil Sharma.
Anna’s private secretary Suresh Pathare added that Anna had not been fit enough to meet any visitors or attend Team Anna’s two-day brainstorming sessions. Pathare said it appeared he would need at least a week to recover.
For past three days, Hazare has been recuperating at Padmavati temple in his village and is not meeting any visitors.
Sources from Hazare camp said there was some miscommunication over the Team Anna meeting. Hazare was not in a position to discuss anything when he returned from Mumbai and doctors had advised him complete rest for at least a week when he withdrew his hunger strike on January 28. “We doubt if Team Anna members discussed the dates with him before announcing the same,” said a source.
The new dates for the meeting are likely to be announced on January 4 or 5.
