As Mumbai returned to normalcy on Friday, even the crowd outside Matoshree thinned after Sena executive president Uddhav Thackeray assured supporters that their leader is recovering late on Thursday night. However, doctors treating Thackeray said that his condition was still critical and the same as on Thursday.

The tension in the city had visibly reduced with people getting back to their routines, though security arrangements were just as stringent as a precaution. Taxis and autorickshaws were back on roads, as people returned to offices and shops and petrol pumps opened early on Friday morning.

At Thackeray's home, Matoshree, in Kalanagar, a stream of celebrities visited his family amid high security. Yoga guru Baba Ramdev, late filmmaker V Shan-taram's son Kiran Shantaram, RPI leader Ramdas Athavale and senior BJP leader Venkaiah Naidu visited the ailing leader on Friday morning.

Thackeray has had multi-organ failure, including renal failure, and has been unconscious for three days now. He has been put on a non-invasive ventilator to help him breathe, said doctors.
