BEST bus skids, hits pole

A BEST bus skid off the road and hit an electric pole at the Somani junction near the Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus (CST) on Sunday morning. While no one was injured in the accident, a portion of the bus was badly damaged.

According to the Azad Maidan police, the incident took place around 9am on Sunday when BEST bus route no 17, which plies between Backbay depot and Vidya Vihar, was passing Somani junction near Fashion Street at CST and rammed into an electric pole at one end of the road.

The BEST bus driver told the police that the incident happened due to a wet road, a result of unseasonal overnight showers.

According to the police, even though the driver applied breaks due, the bus did not stop and continued to skid off the road due to the wet road. It finally came to a stop after it collided with the electric pole.

The police have not registered any complaint and have left the investigation to the BEST.
