“The thought of getting pricked [for the blood test] would scare many. Also, undergoing blood tests would take a long time due to long queues at hospitals. Who would wish to spend the whole night in a hospital for a few minutes of fun?” a source said.

Apart from the punishment, the traffic police are also contemplating displaying the names of drivers caught in an inebriated state on the department’s digital display boards that are present at major roads and junctions in the city.
“This will make motorists think twice before they take the wheel after they have consumed alcohol,” the source said.
The police believe the blood tests will prove to be a deterrent to drink driving in the city.
