The Kurla railway police have registered a case of robbery against an unidentified person after 75 cartridges and three signalling rockets were found missing from an army consignment.
According to the railway police, Naik Subhedar Madhuram Nath (43), who is posted in Assam, and four other jawans were bringing an arms consignment for testing in the army lab in Pune.
They left from Assam on May 19. They were travelling on the Guwahati Express and reached Kurla Terminus on Friday.
“They had kept two gunny bags in the luggage compartment. There were three boxes in one gunny bags containing 25 cartridges each and in the other bag they were four boxes containing signaling rockets, wires,” said Senior Police Inspector Dilip Ghor.
When the train halted at Kurla Terminus at 10.30 pm on Friday, the boxes were found open and all cartridges along with three signaling rockets were missing.
“The door of the luggage compartment was sealed. This means the thief must have entered the compartment by breaking the toilet door and stolen the consignment,” added Ghor.
