The scheme was to start on March 24 at a function attended by chief minister Prithviraj Chavan, who is also in charge of transport department, at Sahyadri guest house.

It has been postponed because Chavan is unable to attend the function due to the ongoing session of the Assembly. This has now delayed the scheme, which was to start at all three Mumbai Regional Transport Offices (RTOs) at Tardeo, Wadala and Andheri from March 24. This scheme will do away with long queues and the interference of middlemen at RTOs for getting their driving licences.

“The CM had to inform the House (assembly session) about this public function. But this didn’t happen,” said a RTO official, on condition of anonymity. The scheme will be delayed as the transport department has decided to wait for the CM.

No new date has been set for the scheme to begin.
