The state will have an experts’ committee to find out reasons for the students’ suicide. It will also recommend the ways for minimising stress, if any, that allegedly propels students to kill self.
Chief Minister Ashok Chavan on Wednesday made an announcement to this effect.
In a week’s time, the state has reported several incidents wherein teenagers and senior students have killed themselves. The victims’ families and experts observed that the stress induced by studies was one of the primary reasons for the same. They also blamed some movies for influencing the students to take a drastic step.
“The government is forming a committee that will not only find out reasons (for suicides) but also provide solution to the problem,” he told media after a felicitation function that was organised in his honour by the city’s Sikh community.
Chavan said that the incidents concerned him most. Sources close to him said he had been thinking of education reforms ever since he took over as the CM.
But Chavan chose not to comment on his intentions on Wednesday.
A senior Mantralaya officer said requesting anonymity that the committee would comprise experts from educational, social and psychological fields.
