On a rare occasion, Chief Minister Ashok Chavan and Shiv Sena executive president Uddhav Thackeray shared a common dais on Sunday to inaugurate a multi-specialty hospital at Kurla.
Both leaders pledged to keep their political differences aside and join hands for the development of the state.
Speaking at the inauguration function, Kohinoor’s founder and Shiv Sena leader Manohar Joshi urged the chief minister and Thackeray to join hands to resolve the various issues faced by the city.
“It is necessary that Thackeray and Chavan come together as the city’s problems will be solved only if both leaders join hands,” Joshi said.
In his speech, Chavan said, “I am always ready to co-operate with Thackeray on development issues in Mumbai. Elections come and go. During election campaigns, we fight with each other. But there is no need to continue the fight after the elections.”
Chavan further said that he was of the opinion that all political parties should leave aside their political differences and come together to help solve issues relating to development.
Thackeray also said that he would not indulge in political one-upmanship as regards issues of development. Referring to the water crisis in Mumbai, Thackeray said, “I am of the opinion that we should start desalination of sea water in order to address water problems of Mumbai. Chavan also has the same opinion on the desalination.”
The Shiv Sena leader was quick to clarify that his agreement with Chief Minister Ashok Chavan over the desalination issue should not be misconstrued as a hidden political compromise between the two leaders.
Kohinoor Hospital is the first hospital in Asia to have a ‘Green Building’ which will use resources like energy, water, materials and land more efficiently than normal buildings.
